MANOKOTAK
Snowmachiner drives into creek and drowns during hunting trip
A Manokotak man drowned Saturday after driving his snowmachine into an open creek
about five miles southeast of Manokotak, a village southwest of Dillingham, according
to Alaska State Troopers.
Carlson Kiunya, 38, left by himself on Saturday morning on a Polaris 340 to go waterfowl
hunting southeast of the village, toward Protection Point, troopers said.
Troopers in Dillingham received a call from the Manokotak village public safety
officer about 7:30 p.m. Saturday reporting the drowning.
Kiunya's body was recovered and taken to Manokotak. The state medical examiner has
released it to the family. There were no signs of foul play. Alcohol was not involved.
